## Summary
BONUS in Rincón was an experimental nuclear reactor. Construction began in 1960, its first controlled nuclear reaction occurred in 1964, and full power followed in 1965. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, operation ended in June 1968 because technical difficulties required costly modifications. Fuel was removed, but the entombed reactor vessel and components left long-term monitoring and maintenance responsibilities.

## Claim limits
First controlled reaction and full power are distinct milestones, not claims of commercial service. Closure does not mean all radioactive material was removed. No claim of a meltdown, present-day safety or danger, current public access, or a world or regional first is made.
